Music and Movement in the 21st Century
In this hybrid musical lecture, cultural historian Josh Kun will use music to explore the politics of 21st century migration. Based on his research in Berlin, London, Lampedusa, Tijuana, and Los Angeles, Kun has been studying how forced movement across borders is changing the way the world sounds. Music can be a longing for home and a platform for politics, and also a tool for waging cultural battles of recognition and identity in the face of an increasingly policed and walled world. He will be joined by the musicians Milad Khawam, Abdallah Rahhal and the group BSMG.
This event takes place in English. For tickets and further information please visit the website of the Maxim-Gorki-Theater: www.gorki.de/en/beats-across-borders
