Food, Inc. and its Impact on Social Change

foodinc300Researcher Sheena Nahm will present a paper titled “Hope and the Big Picture: Documentary Films and Their Impact on Social Change” at the 111th annual Meeting of the American Anthropological Association. The paper will draw upon an innovative new survey instrument that measures impact of films on audiences. The Lear Center announced the research in February 2012 in its study of the Oscar-nominated documentary, Food, Inc., which found that similar viewers, with an equal likelihood to see the film, had significantly different eating habits and food shopping habits based on exposure to the film.

Nahm’s presentation will be part of the “Changing the Way We Eat: Food Movements, Agency & Resistance” section of the annual conference.
