What role do recommendation systems play in our pursuit of knowledge and pleasure? How is our personal taste affected by finely-tuned commercial algorithms that are optimized to sell us products and monetize our attention? Lear Center Managing Director and Director of Research Johanna Blakley is the keynote speaker for the 2015 Mission Creek Innovation Festival. In her talk, Technologies of Taste, she will explain why these technologies might be broadening our horizons rather than limiting them, and bursting our filter bubbles rather than reinforcing them.
The event is a part of the Mission Creek Festival, dedicated to inspiring and building the arts and culture community in Eastern Iowa.
