The downtown Court of Flags was the site of the first Community Workshop organized by the official Grand Avenue Park design team, led by Brenda Levin, Mark Rios and Aaron Paley. Approximately 100 citizens attended in person and another 100 viewed the Webcast over the next several days. The design team presented a history of the park site, described its constraints, explored possible goals and took questions and criticism from the audience. Then attendees were split into small groups and given hands-on materials to make their own models of what they wanted in the Grand Avenue Park. Read a transcript of the workshop or view photos here.
On August 19 the second Community Workshop took place, again organized by the official Grand Avenue Park design team, led by Brenda Levin, Mark Rios and Aaron Paley. This workshop, at which preliminary park concepts were presented, was held at the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy, 111 N. Central Avenue, LA 90012. View workshop photos.
